I face 500-600 balls during practice session: Babar Azam

Pakistan skipper, Babar Azam, shared the reason behind his success in world cricket, stating that he firmly believes in the phrase “practice makes a man perfect.” 

In a recent interview with the Peshawar Zalmi podcast, the talented right-handed batter revealed that he dedicates himself to playing 500-600 balls daily during his practice and even doubles the number of balls when he is out of form.

According to Babar, hard practice is key to performing well in matches.

“I think you can only perform in the match when you practice hard. I play 500-600 balls daily during my practice. Even double balls when I am out of form. I believe practice is so important for anyone who wants to perform on the ground,” he shared. 

Babar’s commitment to his craft has undoubtedly paid off, as he is widely regarded as one of the best batters in the world today. He was recently named the ICC Cricketer of the Year for his impressive performance in 2022. 

Despite receiving criticism for his batting strike rate, Babar remains committed to addressing any faults in his batting, emphasizing that it takes time to make the necessary improvements.

“Criticism is always there, whether you perform or not. Everyone has their own opinion,” he said. 

“I think when you find any fault in your batting, it takes some time. People want things to get right immediately, which is not possible,” added Babar.

Babar’s father, Azam Siddique, has played a crucial role in his son’s success, from his childhood cricket days to his current role as captain of the national side. 

The 28-year-old acknowledges his father’s contribution to his success, stating that he always pushes him to strive for more.

“My father rarely gets satisfied with my performance because he doesn’t want me to take things for granted. He always tries to give me some advice so that I can get better and better,” he highlighted. 

“Now, he sometimes praises me. But I think it’s good for you that your elders keep guiding you and want more from you,” he concluded. 

Babar is now the second-highest run-scorer in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 8, having scored 416 runs in nine matches, including his first PSL century. 

His dedication to his craft and commitment to continuous improvement will undoubtedly help him achieve even greater success in the future.
